There have been well over fifty different tape formats released by a variety of companies since the 1950s. They range from open reel formats and cartridges through to the more familiar video cassettes.
Many of these are listed on the VIDIPAX website where you can browse by date and format via a drop down box.
Another valuable web resource is the Texas Commission on the Arts' site, which is easy to use and has some very detailed photos of a limited number of tape formats.
Finally, LabGuy's site has images of pre-Betamax video tape formats (pre-1977) that you can scroll through and compare to the tapes that you have in your collection.
If the information held on these sites does not result in you identifying your tapes then please get in touch with us.
